Why Save Flower Petals?

Flower petals serve dozens of uses you may not have thought about. They can be used in cooking - both to give your meals an elegant look or to add a unique flavor. They can be used in numerous arts and crafts projects, and you can even add them to homemade bath products to ensure that your skin care items are natural and free of chemicals.

Fresh flower petals aren't always easy to come by, however. Your garden will only stay blooming for so long, so it's high time to start picking, vacuum sealing and freezing those flowers so you can use them later at your convenience. Vacuum sealing your plants with a FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealer and freezing them is one of the best ways to keep them fresh and ready for projects like these. Flower petals can be dainty, so use a vacuum seal container if you're worried about tearing or bruising.

Use Roses in the Kitchen
Rose petals make excellent ingredients in a few flavorful recipes. You can candy them using lightly beaten egg whites and sugar. All you do is paint the petals with the egg and gently douse them in the sugar, letting them dry on waxed paper.

You can also use them in cocktails. They make great garnishes in rose champagnes, or you can make your own rose syrup using sugar, water and rose petals.

Get Crafty
Flower petals are the perfect way to add a springy, natural touch to your home. Break them out for special occasions or when you're having guests over.

Simply scattering flower petals over a table is a quick and easy way to give a dinner for two a romantic touch. Save those roses in the freezer and spread them over a table when your loved one doesn't expect it.

Fresh flower petals also make beautiful centerpieces if you float them in a bowl of water. Add a floating candle to the center to complete the look. Don't forget, they're also perfect for pots of potpourri.

Beauty Product Projects
You don't need to get too fancy to mix flower petals into your beauty routine. Sprinkling them into a bath can help your skin feel soft and smooth. Plus, there aren't many things more luxurious than a bathtub filled with flower petals.

You can also make a soothing face mask using rose petals. Soak fresh petals in water for roughly 10 minutes and muddle the mixture afterward. Add 2 or 3 teaspoons of honey and gently paint your face with the mixture. It's recommended you leave the face mask on for roughly 20 minutes before rinsing with cold water. It provides the same silky and soft effect of a rose petal bath to your face.
